What to Wear: Family Session Edition

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Can we all agree that choosing your outfits for your family session is the most stressful part of the session as a whole?? I know it's not just me!!! The struggle! There are so many things to consider when choosing outfits and there is NO EXACT right or wrong BUT....there are a few things to keep in mind that will help the process!! Keep in mind, these tips will very from photographer to photographer and editing styles can affect the overall end product.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing your outfits for a session with Infinite Focus Photography.

Choose complimenting colors, not matchy colors.

It can be easy to decide everyone will wear one color. Unfortunately, this can easily make everyone look like one. When you choose colors that are different but compliment each other instead, you add visual interest and make sure everyone stands out in their own way!

Accessories are your friend!

There is no better time to choose an accessory than for your session! Suspenders, a cute hat, a headband or scarf are comfortable accessories that bring your outfits to the next level.

Don't be afraid to layer!

A vest over a cute top or dress.

Knee high socks under your boots.

A cardigan over a sleeveless top.

A knit or see through kimono over your tights.

These details make a huge difference!

Choose prints!!!

Dont be afraid to choose a gorgeous print and coordinate everyone else around it!! Prints to stay away from? Stripes and small plaid!!!! They can be hard on the eyes and easily get distorted in pictures!

Colors are everything!!!

Colors that look amazing with a warm editing style:

-burgundy

-dark blue

-mustard yellow

-burnt orange

-neutrals

-olive green

- a soft or dark pink

Colors to stay away from:

-Super bright tones

-Neon colors

-bright white

I am ALWAYS here to help with this process! Don't hesitate to send me a message if you're stuck!!

Hugs,

-Madeline
